Bracket System for Goal Setting

What do you really want out of life, what do you want to achieve?

If you have a hard time answering those questions quickly and precisely, the following exercise may help you gain more clarity on what you want. Clarity is the first step to accomplishing your goals and the more specific you are, the better!

How to Get Clear on What You Really Want

First, start thinking of what you want out of life. What do you want to give or contribute and what do you want in return? One way to make this process fun is to picture that you just won the lotto or inherited a great fortune and money is not an issue. Now think of all the things you want to do. What do you want to accomplish, places you want to go, the types of investments and purchases you want to make. Don't put any limits on yourself and do not judge anything as "unrealistic". Continue to think as if money is not an issue and ask yourself different questions like:

"What do I want to do now?"

"If I could have anything I asked for, what would I ask for?"

"If there was no way I could fail, what would I really want to do?"

Think of your aspirations and ask:

"What do I want to become?"

"What would I like to achieve?

Once you have a good idea about what you want to do and accomplish, you're ready to start the bracket system. This system will help you come up with short term and long term goals. You will enter a list of your top 16 and than click "Next Step" at the bottom of the page.

The Next Step will help you determine what is most important through the process of elimination. For example, if you have the following listed:
- Complete a Triathlon
- Take a Caribbean Cruise

You will need to decide and select which one is more important to you. The one selected will advance to the next bracket and you will continue this process until you reach your final choice. After this process is complete, you will have a list that will prioritize what is most important to you. You can repeat the process for your long term aspirations, as well. Make sure you title the Bracket accordingly. Below is a video illustrating the process:
